The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

seriously...

there's few feelings to compare to opening up the front page and seeing a tiny little thumbnail of your own work in the daily deviation section...and then to login and find yourself with over 400 messages and favourites...i highly recommend it, no matter how artists try to disregard public opinion, it just feels so good!!!

thanks so much to ~CarnivalChild and ~Sayume for the suggestion, and `PurpelBlur for choosing to feature it, it completely made my day!!!!

EDIT: can anyone explain to me how the leviathan magically became categorized as manga/anime? is this some weird DA glitch again or has it been redirected or what?! i know i didn't do it and i really don't like it...not the picture but the categorization...

in other news:

the decemberists were unbelievably amazing, definitely the most epic concert i've seen, and probably will remain so for awhile!!! i highly recommend tracking them down if they're in town, as it's just so worth it...

also, essentially i've given up on trying for scholarships to get money for school...after filling out ten applications with no results, i think it's time to put myself towards things that i may actually be able to achieve...and it seems there's a bunch of money in t-shirt designs lately, so i'm working on turning 'dreams of a king' and 'the idea' into workable tshirt designs and i'll probably try to submit them to threadless and elsewhere!!! and if anyone has any ideas as to other pictures in my gallery that would make great designs, i'm open to suggestions!

Oh yeah, btw, sometimes mods have to change what the deviation is categorized under so that they can feature it. It all has to do with what galleries that the mods who feature it have control over.
